Sea food has been an excellent source of nutrition. Fish contains high amount of proteins and other important nutrients. They are low in saturated fats and are good source of omega 3 essential fatty acids. However i am not too sure of the mercury levels! Few say , lady fish falls under the category of Fish that contains High mercury levels. But my granny says it is ‘THE FISH’ for kids! I am still learning about this. Will update my blog when i have more info on the same.

One can get the best Lady Fish @ Honnavar. My son goes Ummmmmmmmmhhhh Ummmmmmmhhhhhhhh when lady fish curry is around. He specially likes this konkani style curry ( yet another special recipe that I learnt from my MIL).

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 medium size Lady fish
  • 1/4 cup of grated coconut
  • 1 small size onion
  • 1-2 dry red chilly
  • 1 green chilly
  • 2-3 garlic clove
  • 1/2 tspn of coriander seeds
  • a small ball of tamarind
  • a pinch of turmeric
  • 3 tspn of coconut oil (Fish curry will be at its best with coconut oil)
  • salt to taste

Method: 

  • Marinade the fish with salt and turmeric for 15 mins, cut and clean thoroughly ,make few vertical slits all over and keep aside

  • Take a thick bottom kadai, add 2 tspn of coconut oil, fry red chilly + coriander seeds for about 2 mins, keep aside

  •  Grind all of the above ingredients (Expect onion and salt) along with roasted red chilly and coriander seed, to a fine paste

Grind all ingredients for lady fish curry

 

 

 

 

 

 

Grind all ingredients to make smooth paste

  •  To the same kadai , add a tspn of oil and fry onion until golden brown, add slit green chilli and fry for an other minute

  •   Add the ground paste and bring to boil , at this point add the fish and cook till the fish becomes opaque . Finally add salt as per taste
