Poha / Masala Puffed Rice

A quick snack made in no time. This one is made every other day @ my in-laws place. However chinnu likes the sweet version of poha, so i make the Gud-poha more often than this spicy version.


  • 1 cup of poha (thick)
  • 2 tspn of ground nut (roasted)
  • 1 small size onion
  • salt to taste

To Temper:

  • 1/4 tspn of Mustard seeds
  • 3-4 curry leaves
  • 1/4 tspn jeera
  • one green chilly slit
  • a pinch of turmeric


  Soak Poha in luke warm water for 3-4 mins. Wash thoroughly , squeeze out the water and keep aside

In a wok , heat oil, add mustard seeds – wait for it to sputter, then add jeera + curry leaves + green chilly. Sauté it for a min

Add onion , sauté for just a min (don’t over cook the onion), now add turmeric powder and ground nuts and fry it for another min

  Lastly mix it with poha and serve ≈
