Pongal/kichdi

P.S : This is my sons version of Kichdi/pongal. Quick and easy to make and specially approved by my little one !

This one is very easy to make.I ensure to add moong dal in my son’s everyday diet.Infact,moong is one of the key ingredients used to make Mixed-grain cereal (link) for infants. It is highly recommended for children and elderly people as it is easily digested.

Tip:

  • Moong dal : Highly rich in the qualities of vitamin A, B, C and E and calcium, magnesium and potassium.
  • Rice : An excellent source of vitamins and minerals like vitamin D, calcium, fiber, iron, thiamine and riboflavin.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raw rice
  • 1/2 cup moong dal
  • 1/2 tspn coriander powder
  • 1/2 tspn jeera powder
  • 4-5 cashews
  • 7-8 raisins
  • 2 tspn of ghee
  • a pinch of hing (asafetida)
  • a pinch of turmeric
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 tspn mustard seeds

Method:

Dry roast the rice and moong dal separately. Wash thoroughly and pressure cook.( Add 5 cups of water and bring 4 whistles)

  

In a pan , heat ghee . To this add rest of the ingredients and fry for a minute. Add this masala with rice-moong dal and mix well
